Bearings

A bearing is a machine element that constrains relative motion and reduces friction between moving parts, typically a rotating component and a stationary one. Modern bearings, developed from ancient concepts and the Industrial Revolution, work by facilitating controlled motion, either rotational or linear, through rolling (balls or rollers) or sliding action. They are categorized by their design, such as ball or roller bearings, and by the direction of load they handle (radial or thrust).
